I was getting ingredients ready to make bread in the breadmaker this morning, which included fancy molasses. As I grabbed the molasses out of the cupboard I found myself wondering what makes molasses fancy, and if there were other types of molasses. I mean, can you get plain molasses?
Thanks to Google, I learned that there are several types of molasses. I had heard of blackstrap molasses before, but now know that it is a dark, bitter molasses that is the by-product of the sugar making process. There is also lite, cooking, and unsulphured molasses. And, of course, fancy molasses which is used most commonly in baking.
