I learned a little bit about Steven Pinker's views on thought and language today. And I now feel justified for always assuming I would vehemently disagree with him, despite having never read any of his work before. He believes that thought and language are two processes completely independent from one another. I wonder how much he had to talk himself through that before deciding it was true. Mind you, I am also entering my sixth year of being trained by social-constructivist teachers.
