Today I learned that, unlike in your usual Canadian grocery store that has an ethnic food aisle, when shopping at a grocery store in Chinatown, but looking for a "western" item, you must look in the "western" foods section.
On that note, I also learned that a mix of tamarind paste, soy sauce, vinegar and cloves can make a fairly good substitute for worcestershire sauce. But I'm glad I found the western section anyway.
In one of my classes this evening we did a little group exercise aimed at discovering our beliefs, assumptions, and knowledge in teaching. I learned that I value a real connection with my teachers, and that I really value independence as a learner. While I would have thought that before, I didn't realize how important it was to me until tonight.
