After showing up late to trivia night at the pub tonight, I learned several new things, but the one that stuck in my head was about Chicago and the stock market. Two of Chicago's professional sports teams have names that represent types of markets: Bears and Bulls. Good thing my team was made up of a nice variety of backgrounds and knowledge bases. We got this one right, but no thanks to me.
I learned, in addition, to Chicago's teams bearing these names, that a bull market is one that is exhibiting an upward trend, and a bear market is one that is exhibiting a downward trend. While I am sure it may be more sophisticated, this is about as sophisticated as I would be able to understand.
